MIX MONDAYS: A Friend Called Five

Another Monday, another mix, and we’re finally starting to catch up to the present. This week’s mix takes us back to the spring of 2010, having just discovered the excellent Minimal Wave Tapes curated by Veronica Vasicka and going through something of an 80s music Renaissance. Much of the music that would later show up on Skinemax was just starting to come out around this time as well.

A Friend Called Five, named after some particularly resonant lyrics from Gary Numan’s seminal “Down In The Park”, is an homage to all of the wonderful synth pop we grew up with in the 80s that led to a wealth of experimentation down the line and the electronic music scene we know and love today.

Some of these you may have heard before, some you probably haven’t, but we hope this gives the music from Skinemax some important context and cultural background. And beyond that, this is a fun one to dance to, enjoy!
